Germany championing “civic energy”

More than 1,000 energy cooperatives created

51% of renewable energy capacity is owend by citizens (40%) and farmers (11%)

Since 2007, about 170 municipalities have bought back the grid from private companies


Munich aims for 100% green electricity by 2025.

The Stadtwerke München has allocated a budget of €9 billion to this objective

Amongst the ongoing projects: a hydroelectric plant that will power 4 000 homes /year
