Mr. Nodar Javakhishvili – Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Mr David Jikia – Mayor of Rustavi
It is during the conference “Local Self-Government - Best Practices 2015”, that took place in our member city of Tbilisi on 12 December, that several Georgian municipalities have been awarded for their examplary local policies. Among many top officials, Prime Minister Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili and the Head of EU Delegation to Georgia, Mr. Janos Herman, attended the event The City Mayor of Rustavi, Mr David Jikia, introduced in his speech some projects implemented in the city thanks to EU funds or to a BP granted project, which were among the 10 best projects awarded, like the following:
- “Energy Efficient Lighting for the Rustavi Central Park for Recreation and Leisure”
- “Introduction of LED Lighting System in Kavkasioni Street” and the “Thermal Modernization of Heating System at historic building of public school" submitted by Georgian Signatories Rustavi City Hall and Telavi City Hall.
These projects were implemented by the official Covenant supporter “Energy Efficiency Center Georgia”, within the framework of the program “Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency New Project”. The aim of this program is to support the Covenant of Mayors municipalities throughout Georgia to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency projects as envisaged in their Sustainable Energy Action Plans and fulfill their commitments to reduce their GHGs emissions by 20% by 2020.
