Energy Cities at the Climate Chance Summit in Nantes, 26-28 September 2016

By Miriam Eisermann on 30 juin 2016

After the huge success of last year’s Lyon Summit, a second gathering of non-state actors ahead of COP22 is scheduled in Nantes from 26-28 September. Energy Cities is part of the organiser committee and expects great contributions from this Climate Chance Summit for the international climate negotiations to be held in Marrakesh at the end of the year.

Energy Cities will host a series of events during the Summit.

26 September, 17-19h
Forum on "New energy, new solidarity"

Shifting to 100% renewables by 2050, that was the pledge of over 700 local authorities on 4 December, during the Climate Summit for Local Leaders organised at the Paris City Hall during COP21. The challenge in 2016 and beyond is to transform this ambition into concrete policy measures and implemented actions. How to get started on that ambitious pathway ?

The discussion will focus on two challenges :

  • Visioning the long-term : How to create a 100% RES masterplan
  • From ideas to practice : Urban – rural solidarity and mobilising financing

Speakers from Frankfurt, Saint Etienne, Chefchaouen, Fundacion Renovables, Frederikshavn and Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées Region will share how they have implemented or envisage implementing reproducible transformation actions.

The forum is co-organised with the CLER association.

Workshops organised by Energy Cities during the Summit :

The Catalyst Role of Local Authorities to Mobilise the Entire Stakeholder Chain for Energy Efficiency Investments
In an effort to circumvent the challenges of conventional financing, local authorities are increasingly experimenting with new business models and alternative financing schemes to mobilise private and public investments to renovate the building stock on its territory : energy performance contracting, citizen-based financing, soft loans...

With speakers from Ghent, Provincial Council Barcelona, REScoop EU, Municipality Agueda and Frederiskhavn

Appropriating the climate challenge : the participation issue.
Citizen participation and urban planning : the appropriation of urban issues for citizens "authors" of action for the climate.

With speakers from the local government of Wenden, City of Utrecht and the University of Nantes

The timing of each workshop will be communicated on the website : www.climatechance2016.com

Summit languages : English and French (including for some of the workshops).
