A European energy system in 3D? Rethinking the EU’s energy and climate policies

Organised by Energy Cities as part of the PUBLENEF project
Side-Event to Energy Cities’ 2017 Conference

The European energy system will have to undergo a major shift in order to transform the EU into decarbonized, sustainable and resilient society. Business-as-usual energy and climate policies will not be sufficient to reach this ambitious goal. A new way of thinking is required to achieve the long-term transition of the European energy system.

A European energy system in 3D – based on Democratization, Decentralization and Divestment – can provide the way forward to rethink the EU’s energy and climate policies. What would be the implications of applying the 3Ds to European energy and climate policies? Which changes would be required to the current legislative framework? Which actors would need to be empowered?
This event, organised in the framework of the Horizon 2020-funded PUBLENEF project, will address these questions through a high-level panel discussion and an interactive session in the world café format.
