Webinar: “Streets for children, streets for all”, a collective project to share and design public space in La Rochelle

Organised in the framework of the CitiZEN project - Sustainable mobility for citizens in Europe - co-funded by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union
It’s not just about removing traffic from a street for a day. It’s the opportunity for children, parents and residents to create public space, where cars are usually passing by.
In the French city of La Rochelle, “fun learning” was key to a successful public-private partnership where teachers and local associations teamed up with the municipality and the public transport company to organise a range of activities during the “Children’s Street” on 7 June 2016. This collaborative process will be replicated in other parts of the city particularly to develop alternative solutions to cars to go to school.

Event is organized by European island authorities
On 28 March islands make a strong comeback in the European Parliament to present the Smart Islands Initiative. Building on the 1st Smart Islands Forum, the event will communicate the need to tap the significant, yet largely unexploited potential of islands to function as living labs for technological, environmental, and social innovation! Main highlight of the event is the official signing ceremony of the Smart Islands Declaration, a manifest to mobilize political and financial support so that European islands can transform into smart, inclusive and thriving societies.

Webinar: What prospects for EU Energy Efficiency Policies - Findings from the Energy Efficiency Watch Project

Organised by FEDARENE & Energy Cities

Over the last 10 years, the importance of energy efficiency in European policy has steadily increased. Today, energy efficiency is a key element on the EU’s political agenda. Policymakers are progressively recognising energy efficiency as a suitable means to address the triple challenge of economic recovery, energy dependency and climate change.

Starting in 2006, the Energy Efficiency Watch (EEW) projects have accompanied this process. EEW facilitates the implementation of EU energy efficiency policies by collecting information on this process, and by providing this information to a variety of stakeholders, including European, national, regional, local policymakers and experts.

During this webinar, speakers will discuss the progress in energy efficiency policies in the EU, and assess the new prospects opened up by the energy efficiency proposals of the Clean Energy for all Europeans Package.

Covenant of Mayors and CEDEC Webinar - How to boost local gas production from biomass or waste water: Inspiration from biogas-powered cities

Organised by the Covenant of Mayors Office and CEDEC
In the future, biogas could play a big role in cities’ energy mix. Gas is currently underexposed in the debate on the future sustainable energy system, green gas and other sustainable gases are rarely mentioned in policy documents or legislation and only few Member States have set targets for it. This online event will provide an outlook into how local authorities have already seized the opportunities offered by biogas.
